| RUNNING THE YORKSHIRE 3 PEAKS AGAIN |
6th May 2010 |
After running the Yorkshire 3 Peaks with my mate Jim a couple of weeks earlier (as shown here)
it was bothering me that I'd found it pretty tough. So I went back to Horton-on-Ribblesdale by myself to do it again and beat my time of 6.5 hours.
I felt MUCH stronger this time around and was able to cruise up all the slopes of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Inglebrough without any walking. And I didn't get lost this time which
was an added bonus. I didn't have a car to get to Horton this time around and had to catch two trains instead. This meant setting off really early and having to carry everything
I brought with me (rather than leave stuff in the car).
I also carried my video camera in my hand the whole way round so I was able to film lots of it. Not all of it, mind you, thanks to a technical error where moisture got into
the camera and forced it to keep ejecting the tape. VERY frustrating although hardly surprising given that it was raining for the first half of the run and I was sweating a little
bit. Still, I managed to make a funky little video from the footage I shot so if it has EVER intrigued you to see what it might look like to run up and down a load of hills then
be sure to watch the video above. Watching someone run; it's mind blowing stuff, I tell you
Oh and I ran it in 5 hours 50 minutes. However, I KNOW I can do much better than this. Next time I'll be aiming for under 5 hours though that'll have to wait a bit until after summer
because running long distance in blazing sunshine is no fun at all.
